We Can Help You Manage Your Dental Anxiety

tooth-colored_fillings_2 - Stonecreek Dental Care | Centerville, OH Dental Office

Fear of the dentist is not something you can just get over. Most people have reasons they are nervous about visiting the dentist.

For many, it’s rooted in a bad experience they had as a child. We’ve had adult patients visit us after avoiding dental care for decades because of something that happens when they were still in school.

For other patients, all it takes is hearing about something that happened to someone else to create that sense of dental anxiety. You also may be hesitant to get a cleaning if you’ve seen one too many movies or television shows in which dentists are portrayed as less than caring people.

Our team at Stonecreek Dental Care understands that you have your own reasons to feel reluctant about making a dental appointment. Yet, we have helped countless patients find ways to get the care they need to keep their mouths healthy.

We would be happy to help you at any of our eight locations in Ohio . Contact the one closest to you to learn more.

We Start by Listening to You

If you or someone you care about is struggling with dental anxiety , we want to hear about your concerns.

Are you worried that dental care will be painful? Are you concerned that you might gag?

Do you dislike the sound of dental equipment? Do you dislike “the drill” or worry about needles being used to deliver anesthetic?

By knowing why you feel uncomfortable about dental care, we can work with you to develop a plan to ease your tension so you can feel relaxed during your visits with us.

Please keep in mind that overcoming dental anxiety is unlikely to happen in a single visit. We’ve learned that patients feel more comfortable as they get to know us and we get to know them.

Our offices have been designed with patient comfort in mind. In addition to our compassionate staff, we offer a number of amenities (such as our paraffin hand dip treatments) to help you get into a calm state of mind.

We’ve also incorporated advanced technology into what we do. As an example, we use electric hand tools. This reduces vibration and noise, both of which can make your dental care easier to handle.

And please, don’t hesitate to ask questions. Many patients feel more comfortable when they know what to expect and understand why we are doing what we are doing. We’ll be glad to tell you as much or as little as you want to know.

Sedation May Be an Option for You

Sedation dentistry is a great way to help you ease back into oral care.

And if you come to Stonecreek Dental Care, you will have the option of three levels of sedation. Whether you have mild, moderate, or severe anxiety, one of our options will likely work for you.

Most people are able to handle basic preventive care, such as cleanings and exams, with the help of inhaled sedation, better known as laughing gas. By breathing in laughing gas, you can feel a sense of relaxation come over you, and you won’t feel any pain or gag during your treatment.

For patients who want something a little stronger, we offer oral conscious sedation. This is as simple as taking a dose of medication prior to your appointment. We make sure to give the medicine time to take effect before we start your care.

Again, you won’t feel any pain or gag, but you will remain calm until your treatment is done.

Few dentist offices have completed the necessary training to offer our highest level of sedation, however. IV sedation is the strongest and fastest acting of our three options. We’ve used to help patients with severe anxiety, and we’ve used it to help patients who need more complex treatments.

It is important to note that the effects of sedation can last for a while after your treatment. For this reason, you should arrange for someone else to drive you to and from your appointment if you elected dental sedation.
