We do a lot of sedation. That is a great question to ask people, that they may be scared. They may not have enough time. They may be embarrassed. Whatever it is, we want to offer that. And some say, ‘Gosh, you can get everything done in one visit? I'm a busy executive. I can't take eight weeks off or eight Mondays off for the next eight weeks, but I can do one day and get everything done.’ So we offer IV sedation. We offer oral conscious sedation. We offer just nitrous, which is just to take care of anxiety and you can drive home. Anything that we can do to make them, their visit more pleasant. What's great about the IVN, the oral sedation, is that it's an amnesiac, so they don't remember anything, which is fantastic for us and fantastic for them.
Every case of dental anxiety is different. So we offer three different types of dental sedation:
- Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas”
- Oral conscious sedation
- IV sedation
We’ve highlighted some of the advantages of each approach for you here. No matter which type of sedation options you receive, we’ll carefully monitor you throughout your treatment. Several of our dental team and other staff members have undergone special training for sedation dentistry.
If there will be any discomfort with a procedure, we also thoroughly numb your mouth with local anesthesia before we go to work. We pride ourselves on keeping discomfort to a minimum!
We’re happy to answer any questions you have about dental sedation. Call Stonecreek Dental Care Centerville, OH dental office at 877-959-5405.
The Advantages of Nitrous Oxide
Advantages of nitrous oxide include: We administer nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” through a small mask you wear over your nose. It creates a feeling of mild euphoria. You’ll feel calm and comfortable and be able to respond to instructions from your dentist.
- It takes effect quickly and wears off quickly too
- It’s so safe, we can even give it to children
- You should be able to drive yourself home after your procedure
Our Oral Conscious Sedation Process
With this form of dental sedation, we give you a pill that you’ll take shortly before your procedure. The sedatives we use are part of a family of anti-anxiety medications that have been in wide use for more than 50 years. The pill produces a deeper state of relaxation than nitrous oxide, though you should still be able to respond easily to our instructions.
Advantages of oral conscious dental sedation include:
- You probably won’t remember much about your dental procedure
- Since you simply take a pill, it is easy to administer
The Benefits of IV Sedation
You receive this sedative intravenously. It results in a more relaxed state than either nitrous oxide or oral sedation.
Advantages of IV sedation include:
- It’s the quickest-acting method of dental sedation
- During the procedure, we can easily adjust the level of sedation you receive
- You probably won’t remember anything about your procedure
